Here's a list of worthy URL's I have come across during my endless surfing through the net. Categorized and neatly organized aside from being pretty damm useful, ignoring them wouldn't be the smart thing to do. If you know a URL that isn't here but but damm well should be, just let me know at aavenr@3dactionplanet.com.
Deep Six: Gamespy network's contribution for the Max Payne community and my personal favorite. I work as a content writer there so if you want to check out my journalistic skills, go check it out. Seriously, if you are looking for well written articles/interviews on anything Max Payne this is the way to go.
Payne Reactor: As one of the community’s long standing fan sites, this one used to be pretty big deal in the old days. Nowadays it is on hold but expect an aggressive comeback once the MP2 hype snowball starts to roll.
Max Payne Headquarters: Chances are you have heard about this one long before you bothered to come across my small site. This website is the Microsoft Monopoly of the Max Payne community as there is little doubt most of the community revolves around MPHQ. It’s a great place to find out what’s the latest word on the street or to download the latest mods.
Max
Payne Zone: One of the few, if not the only, survivors of the once fruitful
german Max Payne community. These days I have found myself visiting it a lot
more often than the other English speaking fansites combined. Break the language
barrier using Altavista’s Babelfish
Translator where you can just write the URL and it will be translated
automatically. I seriously recommend this website for reading the latest on
Max Payne and any modding project.
MPHQ Forums: Make no mistake about it, this is the biggest MP forum out there with countless of different boards. This doesn’t necessarily mean quality (lots of spamming there) but you are very likely to find somebody to argue with or ask help to as most community members use to post there.
3D Realms Forums: The official MP board. My absolute favorite due to the quality of posts and people you are likely to find over there. It’s probably the best place to discuss anything editing related as the Remedy guys pop up once in a while and there is already a huge list of threads with helpful comments from them. Try checking out the old, 18 month old topics and you will learn a ton of useful info by reading Remedy’s answers to a great number of editing inquiries.
Deep
Six Forums: It is sadly severely abandoned these days but it used to be
a really fun place to hang out. Go and pay it a visit. It eeds you badly.
Max FX Tutorials:
Remedy’s Official Tutorials: Includes a small user made tutorial index and the official ones by Remedy. The official tutorials are without the slightest doubt the best pieces of Max FX information available outside Remedy’s offices. Can’t miss them if you are serious about MP modding.
Max Payne Mapping: (german site, Babelfish recommended) Contains tons of comprehensive tutorials that cover a wide spectrum of topics. Very useful. Note: there’s a translated version of some of them at MPHQ.
Max FX Tutorial Index: Extremely usefu tool. Covers the great majority user made tutorials out there. You can even find links to some rare Actor FX/Particle FX tutorials here. God bless this site’s creator.
Neil Manke’s MaxEd Tutorial: Everybody’s favorite Half Life modder shows some advanced geometry design techniques. A must read, for geometry mappers.
Prefab Resources:
Remedy’s
Prefab Pack
Last Favor
Mod Prefabs
Aknott’s Prefabs
Max Payne Brothers Prefabs
Rust GameDesign.net
Prefabs
Jay Bee’s Prefabs
(german site, Babelfish recommended)
Texture Resources:
Remedy’s Texture Pack: Remedy’s texture pack comprising a portion of the MP’s original texture set. Note: I strongly recommend downloading a texture ripping program like LdbRip and extracting the whole database of MP textures.
3D Links.com Texture Index: Very useful and comprehensive index of texture resources. Please note most of these sites’ resources aim mainly for the modelling community so the textures are usually non-seamless and of very high resolutions.
Shader Lab: Good stuff here.
Decorate Today: Home decorating website that sports a nice set of wallpaper and painting pictures you can modify for texure use (hey, you have got to be creative!)
Golgotha’s Textures: Huge set of textures from a canned game called Golgotha that may prove to be of some use. No strings attached!
